Art Alert: Silver Bear-winning film Barbra to screen at Cairo's ADEF

Directed by Christian Petzold, film Barbra takes us to the realities of East Germany in the 1980s

German drama Barbra will be screened at the Arab Digital Expression Foundation (ADEF) on Tuesday 6 September.

Produced in 2012, Barbra is written and directed by Christian Petzold. Harun Farocki also collaborated to the screenplay. The film stars Nina Hoss, Ronald Zehrfeld, Rainer Bock.  

"A doctor working in 1980s East Germany finds herself banished to a small country hospital," we read in a synopsis at the IMDB website.

Barbra won several prestigious awards: Silver Bear and Reader Jury of the "Berliner Morgenpost" at the Berlin International Film Festival 2012, German Film Critics Award 2012, Guild of German Art House Cinemas Award 2012, among numerous other accolades. Actress Nina Hoss won Capri European Actress Award at the Capri, Hollywood 2012.

Screening of Barbra at ADEF is part of three films series which focuses on the hardships experienced by the people living in East Germany under the communist regime. Two other films, The Lives of Others and Good Bye, Lenin! will be screened later during the month of September.
