Art Alert: Award winning Jordanian film Theeb screens at Cairo's Osiris

Award winning Jordanian film Theeb will screen at Osiris centre in Cairo on Thursday 20 October.

Directed by Naji Abu Nowar and co-written with Bassel Ghandour, the adventure film tells the story of a young Bedouin boy who discovers trust and betrayal on a treacherous journey through the southern deserts of Jordan during World War I.

The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival in September 2014, winning Best Director Award. It then went on to win a BAFTA award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer, and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film of the Year.

Theeb has been widely acclaimed by critics and praised by audiences worldwide, winning a total of 10 festival awards, including Best Screenplay Award at the Miami International Film Festival, The New Horizons Best Film from the Arab World, the FIPRESCI Award for Best Narrative Film and the Award for Best Script at the 43rd Belgrade International Film Festival.

The film was screened in nine Arab countries, and had its Egyptian debut at the Cairo International Film Festival in November 2014 as part of the Prospects of Arab Cinema Programme.

It was also released in the Netherlands, UK and Switzerland and is set to premiere in the United States later this year.

Tickets for the screening must be purchased before 18 October.
