The first edition of the Cinedelta documentary film festival concluded Thursday, 9 February, after it opened 1 February and toured Tanta, Alexandria and Rosetta.

The awards ceremony was held in Alexandria’s Swedish Institute (SwedAlex), and featured the festival’s guest speaker Erik Gandini, award-winning Swedish/Italian documentary filmmaker.

According to a press release, “The speakers highlighted the crucial role of documentary filmmaking, as well as the importance of new narratives from decentralised regions such as the Delta, as a basis for more inclusive dialogues.”

The first prize was awarded to director Ahmed Hamed for his film Necessity Has No Law. Hamed was granted a two week residency at the Stockholm University of Arts.
