The Egyptian short film Rabie Chetwy (Wintry Spring) was awarded the Grand Prix Golden Beggar for the young author's category at the International Festival of Local Televisions in Slovakia that ran between 7 and 10 June.

The film, directed by Ahmed Kamel and co-written by Tamer Abdul-Hamid, follows the story of a young girl named Nour (Iman Moustafa), whom upon hitting puberty goes through a psychological crisis.

The young girl cannot bring herself to tell her father (Ahmed Kamel), a single parent who struggles to understand the changes occurring in his daughter’s life. Wintry Spring depicts the challenges brought about by these changes, and the growing tensions between father and daughter.

Wintry Spring has so far gathered over 20 international awards since its release. Among the most recent are the Best Short Film award at T.R.A me Indipendenti International Short film Festival in Italy, the Best Foreign Film award at the Ridgewood Guild International Film Festival in New Jersey, and the Best Short Film award at the International Youth Film Festival “Light of the World” in Russia.

Award-winning Egyptian filmmaker Mohamed Kamal studied film directing at the Academy of Arts Higher Cinema Institute in Cairo, from which he graduated in 2006. He has since written and directed several narrative short films, many of which took part in and were awarded at international festivals.
