For the next four weeks, films from three Visegrad Group countries -- Slovakia, Poland, Czech Republic and Hungary -- will be screened for audiences in Cairo.
On 4 April, The Feather Fairy (Perinbada, 1985) from Slovakia will screen at the Office of the Hungarian Cultural Counselor.
Classified by IMDb as comedy, fantasy, and romance, the film talks about the Feather Fairy who lives, with a boy called Jacob, in the sky and gives snow to the people. "One day she ventures into the human world and falls for a peasant girl," IMDb's brief explains.
Directed by Juraj Jakubisko, the film received a special mention from the Sergio Trasatti Award at the Venice Film Festival (1985) and was nominated for the Golden Lion at the same festival.
On 11 April, Polish film Breaking the Limits (Najlepszy, 2017) directed by Lukasz Palkowski will screen at the Czech embassy.
This biography, drama and sports movie is "based on a true story of a drug addict who became a triathlon champion and a winner of Ironman competition," according to IMDb.
The film Breaking the Limits film brought the Best Debut Actor award to Kamila Kaminska (actress) and the Best Production Design for Marek Warszewski at the Polish Film Festival (2017).
It was also nominated to the Eagle award for the Best Sound, Best Editing, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor at the Polish Film Awards that took place in March this year.
On 18 April, the Czech film Closely Watched Trains (Ostre sledované vlaky, 1966) will be shown at the Czech embassy.
Directed by Jirí Menzel, the comedy, drama, romance presents to the viewers a story of "an apprentice train dispatcher at a village station who seeks his first sexual encounter and becomes despondent when he is unable to perform."
The film won the Best Foreign Language Film award at the 1968 Academy Awards as well as Grand Prize at the 1966 Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival. The film was also nominated for several other awards at a number of the prestigious international festivals including Golden Globes and BAFTA Awards.
The last in the series is Maria Theresia (2017) from Hungary, to be screened on 24 April at the Hungarian Cultural Counselor's office.
Classified by the IMDb as biography, drama, history, the film is directed by Robert Dornhelm and includes 2 parts orginally shown as a TV series (2 x 100 minutes). The film is a coproduction of three Visegrad group countries -- Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary -- and Austria and looks into life of the Habsburg woman ruler.
