Medfest, Egypt's first medically-themed film festival and forum, returns with another edition, this time in Minya's Egypt Public Library on 7 December.

Organised by medical doctors Mina El-Naggar and Khaled Ali, who share a passion for film, the festival's first edition was in Cairo and took place at Falaki theatre in January 2017.

While last year's subject was mental health, this edition's theme is 'About Her', presenting a selection of short films that focus on everything related to women’s mental and physical health.

In the description, the organisers say that women hold a special position in medicine and have always been an inspiration for art.

"They harbour life within their bodies and their journeys, health issues and societal problems involve and affect us all. We wanted to showcase films that offer an honest portrayal of what it means to be a girl or a woman facing healthcare related issues in the modern world," the description reads.

The programme features 12 award-winning short films from different countries, which present various women's health issues in unique visual stories.

Medfest aims to be a platform that brings together professionals with the general public. Through films it hopes to strike discussions that help communities develop deeper empathy and appreciation of the personal and social impact of health and disease. It also hopes to help healthcare providers deliver better and more compassionate healthcare.

Attendance of the screening is free, but registration is required through this link.
