Memories of revolution at Cairo's Artellewa

The Artellewa Art Space will screen films on revolutionary themes every Thursday evening throughout the months of March and April

Every Thursday evening throughout March and April, Cairo's Artellewa Art Space will screen films from around the world on revolutionary themes.

All films will be shown in their original language with Arabic subtitles, and each screening will be followed by an open discussion of the film.

The project, dubbed “Nine Memories of Revolution,” will be curated by Hany Saleh.


March 1: 'The Will' by Kamal Selim, Egypt, 1939

March 8: 'October: Ten Days that Shook the World' by Serge M. Eisenstein, Soviet Union, 1928

March 15: 'The Battle of Algiers' by Gillo Pontecorvo, Italy/Algeria, 1966

March 22: 'Z' by Costa-Garvas, France/Algeria, 1969

March 29: 'Army of Shadows' by Jean-Pierre Melville, France/Italy, 1969

April 5: 'Lion of the Desert' by Moustapha Akkad, Libya/US, 1981

April 12: 'Malcolm X' by Spike Lee, US, 1992

April 19: 'West Beirut' by Ziad Doueiri, Lebanon, 1998

April 26: '678' by Mohamed Diab, Egypt, 2010

All film screenings will begin at 8pm.
