An Egyptian documentary film titled Flox will participate in the upcoming anniversary edition of iREPRESENTInternational Documentary Film Festival (IREP), which will take place between 19 and 22 March in Lagos, Nigeria.

In its tenth edition, the festival continues to present documentaries on issues that have a social impact on the filmmakers' communities.

Directed by Hady Mahmoud, the 45-minute Flox (2019) focuses on Cairo microbus drivers and their daily struggles.

According to a brief released at IMDb, the film "explores how microbus drivers perceive and negotiate their masculinity in a mega-city like Cairo, For them, driving a difficult vehicle, handling inter-group conflict, struggling with poverty, surviving with substance abuse only made them to wish not to foresee their children inheriting the same job. The film is about the beauty as well as the dark side of the chaotic life of the urban poor, who are forced to create a state within a state in order to live."

The IREP is organised by iREPRESENT Documentary Film Forum with an aim to promote awareness about the power of documentary format to serve as a means of deepening and sharing social and cultural education as well as encouraging participatory democracy in our societies.
