In broader terms, the FMD "aims to establish a creative community of Egyptian designers and filmmakers who collaborate to produce design film documentaries."
The FMD held its first annual event in February 2019 at Cairo's Zawya Cinema. The two-day event hosted screenings of four international and five locally produced design-film documentaries, talks and panel discussions that revolve around design and film.
FMD is also dedicated to building an archive of design-film documentaries that capture the evolution and development of both creative fields in Egypt.
