According to the German press agency DPA, the Egyptian actress Bushra won the Indian Television Academy Award as one of the strongest women in the Middle East.
Bushra played a role in a 2010 film that told a fictional, yet strong story of sexual harassment on a bus in Egypt. The film, titled 678, saw some support, especially from outspoken women who don't keep quiet about the status quo for women in the Arab country. However, many others backlashed, objecting that it tarnished Egypt’s reputation.
Bushra already won best actress for her role in the film in the Dubai International Film Festival. She played a woman from a lower social class who sought revenge for men harassing women on the public buses.
The awards ceremony for the Indian Television Academy took place in Dubai this year.
Fifteen other women received the award, including the Egyptian Nashwa El-Roueiny, the executive manager of Pyramedia Production.
