This year’s Malmö Arab Film Festival (MAFF) will showcase ten films by Egyptian directors or involving Egyptian producers, among over 75 features, short films and documentaries by Arab artists or focusing on the Arab region
The Egyptian films include shorts and feature-length movies and both fictional works and documentaries. Several are making their international premieres at the festival, which runs from 8 to 13 October.
Founded in 2011, the festival focuses on Arab cinema, showcasing films by Arab directors or revolving around Arab issues.
"Evolving from a grassroot movement the festival was initiated through a need, in Malmö and Sweden, for a space that would share and explore the Arab culture. MAFF is an intercultural meeting place, a place for discourse and bridge-building between people and cultures,” reads the website.
The festival includes a variety of segments, including competitive segments as well as panoramas, retrospectives, special screenings, and workshops.
The event also hosts the MAFF Market Forum, described as “an industry forum for collaboration between the Nordic and Arab industries."
