The first edition of the Bahrain Film Festival (BFF) will take place between 1 and 5 April, 2021 under the theme 'Cinema for You'.
The festival is organised by the Bahrain Cinema Club and held under the patronage of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA).
The first session of the festival was scheduled to take place from 4 to 8 March, 2020, before the postponment of all events locally due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic earlier last year.
Prior to the pandemic, the festival had been gearing up to screen 200 films representing directors and producers from 14 Arab countries.
A statement issued by the festival’s management confirmed that "films that have qualified for the festival’s competition in the year 2020 will be automatically transferred April 2021 session."
The BFF has also asked that the producers of these films confirm their participation by sending a message to [email protected] with the title of the film, director's name, and country.
The festival’s management reiterated that it also welcomes submissions of new films through the official website of the festival before the deadline set on 15 March 2021.
The films will be screened in five categories: short fiction, documentary, animated films, students' films, in addition to films from Bahrain's Centre of Women Excellence for Women Empowerment (CEWE).
The BFF takes into account all precautionary measures linked to the pandemic.
Screenings and special events that will not be presented physically will be postponed to a later date in 2021.
The details about physical and/or online screenings will be announced at a later point.
The BFF is part of the Bahrain Cinema Club’s initiatives and projects as an extension of its film competition held in 2017 and 2018.
Founded in 1980 with the aim of spreading film culture and awareness and stimulating the local film movement, the Bahrain Cinema Club is a non-profit cultural institution, operating under the umbrella of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities.
