Renowned Egyptian screenwriter Mariam Naoum and Oscar-winning Irish writer-director Terry George will team up to co-write an Arabic serial killer series titled The Alexandria Killings, Naoum revealed the news on her Facebook page Thursday.
The series will focus on the infamous Egyptian sisters Raya and Sakina, who robbed and killed several women in 1920s Alexandria.
The sisters were eventually sentenced to death, yet their story has inspired a series of filmmakers, theatre writers and directors, to shed light on them in their productions.
The Alexandria Killings is being produced by Dubai-based Front Row Filmed Entertainment and London-based Rocket Science via their Middle East joint venture Yalla Yalla.
The date of the series release is yet to be revealed.
Mariam Naoum is among the most renowned scriptwriters of her generation. Born to an artistic family, she studied economics in France yet returned to Egypt to study screenwriting at the High Institute of Cinema.
