Iconic Egyptian comedy star Samir Ghanem, 84, and his wife, celebrated actress Dalal Abdel-Aziz, 61, have been admitted to hospital due to COVID-19 infection.

"I ask for your prayers for our beloved," the couple's son in law TV host Ramy Radwan wrote on his social media late on Friday, confirming earlier reports about the health of the popular artistic family.

Radwan's wife Donia Samir Ghamen, a first row star actress, had to postpone her TV series 'A'lam Mwazy' due to the coronavirus infection, to miss the Ramadan season's race despite a big potential for top viewership.

Her sister, comedy actress Amy Samir Ghanem, has also been reported tested positive, with some news suggesting that her husband Hassan El-Raddad, a leading actor, has been treated as well.

Each of Ghanem's family has been quite active this season, taking parts in different TV series and ads.

Egypt, in recent days, has been reporting a daily caseload of over one thousand, in addition to tens of deaths.
