Organisers of the Red Sea International Film Festival announced Saudi producer Mohamed Al-Turki will chair the festival's upcoming edition, scheduled to take place between 6 and 15 December.

The first film festival to be held by Saudi Arabia was planned to kick off in March 2020, but due to Covid-19 pandemic the event was postponed with preliminary plans set for November then December.

Al-Turki "successfully bridged the entertainment gap between ‘East and West’ and carved a career that spans over 10 years in both Hollywood and the Arab world," reads a short biography of the producer released by the festival on its Instagram page.

The festival also quotes Al-Turki's comment on the appointment saying: "I am honoured to be joining the Red Sea International Film Festival to support this exciting new festival and bring people together through the universal language of film. It's a wonderful time to witness the cultural shift in Saudi with extraordinary plans underway for vision 2030. The festival is the perfect opportunity to develop our flourishing industry, champion and support young Saudi and Arab talent, and share authentic compelling stories with global audiences."
