Revart Film Festival: MENA first vertical film fest accepts submissions

Ahram Online , Friday 30 Jul 2021

Submissions to the vertical film festival are open until 18 September

The management of the second Revart Film Festival (RFF), Egypt’s vertical film festival, announced the opening of submissions for the MENA region’s filmmakers who wish to participate in the festival that will be held between 3 and 6 November.

The first of its kind event in the Middle East, the RFF aims to introduce Egyptian and Arab filmmakers to a new and modern storytelling style, believing that it is playing an important role in shaping the film industry.

The festival was launched in May 2020 under unusual circumstances, during the pandemic and closure of all cultural venues.

10 films — shot by mobile phones or any camera in a vertical aspect ratio — made it to the final selection of the festival which took place entirely online, on the RFF’s Facebook and Instagram platforms.

“After the first virtual edition’s success, [the second edition] will be the first initiation to build a vertical cinema in the MENA region to empower creators and filmmakers to explore the modern aspect ratio of content creation,” reads the RFF’s website.

In its second edition, the festival will take place at Cinema Radio in Downtown Cairo, one of the historical landmarks of Egyptian golden cinema from the 1930s.

This year, the festival is organised in cooperation with Al-Ismailiya for Real Estate Investment.

With the submissions’ deadline set on 18 September, the filmmakers are welcome to submit their work to one of the following categories: Vertical Short Narrative Competition, Vertical Short Experimental Competition, and Vertical Music Video Competition.
