Egyptian actress Fathiya Tantawi died late Tuesday evening in a hospital in Cairo at 78 years of age.

The actress performed in over 140 works across multiple platforms, ranging from radio and theatre projects to films and television series.

Tantawi started her career in radio and theatre by participating in plays staged at the National and Avant-Garde theatres. She also performed in commercial theatre plays such as ‘The Lesson Ended’ with acting heavy-weight Mohamed Sobhi in 1975.

Working beside the best-known actors of her time, Tantawi left a strong imprint in every project she was involved in. Her most notable roles were in ‘Dam Al-Ghazal (2005), ‘White Abbas in the Black Day’ (2004), ‘Al-Shahd wi Al-Domouaa’ (1983), and ‘Edhak Al-Soura Tetlaa Helwa’ (1999).

Tantawi suffered from a sudden heart attack on Tuesday evening and was submitted to a hospital in Cairo, where she died a few hours later.

The funeral will take place on Wednesday after the noon prayers in 6 October City, Giza.
