RSIFF's inaugural Red Sea Souk Awards announce winning film projects

Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea International Film Festival (RSIFF) — which kicked off on 6 December and is running till 15 December — announced on Sunday the winners of its inaugural edition’s Red Sea Souk Awards.

The festival has played host to panels discussing the industry, workshops, a project market, and networking sessions.

“All films in the Red Sea Souk were deliberated on by two separate juries for the Project Market and the Works-in-Progress to grant the Red Sea Souk Awards,” stated the organisers.

They added that “more than 700,000 USD were awarded to the projects selected in the Red Sea Souk Awards, with funds provided by the Red Sea Fund as well as generous industry sponsors.”

The winners are a selection of new and established voices in filmmaking, including numerous female filmmakers.

“We are so proud of the creativity and talent displayed today and we would like to congratulate them on their momentous achievements, we can’t wait to see what else they can accomplish in elevating the Saudi film industry,” stated Red Sea Souk Manager Zain Zedan through the events’ website.

All the winners of the Red Sea Souk Awards have been announced as follows:

‘Akashinga’ by Naishe Hassan Nyamubaya, film in development (25,000 USD)
‘AÏCHA’ by Mehdi M. Barsaoui, film in production (100,000 USD)
‘The Zarqa Girl’ by Zaid Abuhamdan (100,000 USD)
‘The Photographer of Madina’ by Dalyah Bakheet (100,000 USD)
‘Birthday’ by Lara Zeidan (15,000 USD)

Cell Studios’ Colouring Services Awards:

‘The Cemetery of Cinema’ by Thierno Souleymane Diallo (10,000 USD)
‘Dirty, Difficult, Dangerous’ by Wissam Charaf (10,000 USD)
‘Fragments from Heaven’ by Adnane Baraka (15,000 USD)
