The 11th LAFF will take place 4-10 March 2022.

Morsi, Sultan and Ismail will be honored for their remarkable achievements and unique contributions to African cinema.

Huda Sultan is a late Egyptian actress and singer. She starred in several movies in main and secondary roles. Among her works were: Al Watad (1996), Kahramana (1959) and El Fatawa (1957).

Mahmoud Morsi is a late Egyptian actor, who studied filmmaking in France before returning to Egypt to work in radio and television. His first appearance was in the film I am a Fugitive (1962). This was followed by numerous other works with most important being Abo El-Ela Elbeshry's Journey and The Family among others.

Mohamed Ismail is a late Moroccan director and producer, known for his pioneering contributions to Moroccan and African cinema. His works were nominated for several awards at many prominent festivals. He won the Best Director award at the Seventh National Film Festival of Oujda in 2003 for his movie Wa Baad.

In its 11th edition, the LAFF will also give a Lifetime Achievement award to the Egyptian star Hussein Fahmy. The award will be accompanied by a book about the actor, which will be published by the festival.

In addition, the festival will also publish a book about the great director and expert in African cinema, Farid Boughedi, which will showcase his distinguished journey and his most important works.

The upcoming edition of the festival will carry the slogan “Rediscovering Egypt” and its main aim is to showcase Egyptian heritage and cinema to the world.

The poster for the upcoming edition was designed by rising Egyptian artist Mahmoud Ismail. The visual elements in the poster, revolving around the shape of two hands, have been designed to reflect cinema and express Egyptian and African countries' identity.

LAFF is an annual regional film festival specialising in the African film industry, usually held in March in Luxor. It is organised by the Independent Shabab Foundation, which is a nonprofit organisation that has been operating since 2010.
