The news was released by numerous artists on social media expressing their sadness about the passing of the 31 year old artist.
The cause of death has not been revealed.
The artists refer to Sherif as an angel, an inspiration, beautiful and pure, adding that her sudden death is sad, heartbreaking and terrifying. "Shocking news," wrote director and producer Hisham Abdel Khalek.
The same shock and sadness was expressed by film critic and artistic office director at Cairo International Film Festival, Andrew Mohsen, film editor Tamer Ezzat, visual artist Nourhan Mayouf, among hundreds of others reaching out on social media.
Film critic Nahed Nassr called Sherif a "beautiful girl, who was always filled with so much life."
Screenwriter Mariam Naoum expressed, "I do not know what to tell you... You left so early, leaving so many people who love you and think well about you."
Producer Mohamed Atef added "We used to chat a lot. I was getting annoyed by Nouran repeatedly saying: 'I want to make my own movies because I am not sure [how long I'll live]'."
Bushra Rozza (also known as Boshra Ahmed), the actress co-founder and COO of El Gouna Film Festival mentioned that "the last time we spoke, you had ideas for projects that you wanted to implement. I cannot believe it..."
The expressions of love and sadness multiplied since the news about Sherif's passing was released last night. Many artists shared Sherif's self-portrait she posted on Facebook in 2021.
Nourah Sherif was born in 1990 in Cairo. She studied art at the faculty of applied arts and started her career as a visual and audio artist in 2010. As she became more passionate for video art and experimental movies, she focused on incorporating this art form into her creative practice. Her works incorporating video art participated in many art exhibitions in Egypt, USA, UK and Finland, among other countries.
While pursuing her passion for video, film as a director in video art and experimental films, Sherif also worked as an interior designer.
From experimental movies, she turned to filmmaking, and made her first short movie Extra Safe which starred Salwa Mohamed Ali and Tharaa Goubail
She went on two work on her second short film CODE O, and wrote her first feature titled Aida.
Sherif's involvement in the film scene opened doors to work with El Gouna Film Festival in its first edition in 2017 where she was a CineGouna Bridge Programmer, followed by work with Cairo International Film Festival in 2019 where she was managed the Cairo Industry Days workshops.
The funeral prayers for Nouran Sherif took place earlier today at Salam mosque in Nasr City. The wake is yet to be announced.
