The funeral of the director will be held at his family’s cemetery at El-Imam El-Shafe’i in Cairo, announced his brother Moataz Yehia on social media.

Many filmmakers and cultural entities, including the Cinematic Syndicate, have mourned the departure of the experienced director, who also wrote a number of successful screenplays.

The multi-awarded filmmaker has left a legacy of almost 50 films and TV works, including important films like ‘Laila Baka Fiha El-Amar’, ‘Hatta La Yateer El-Dokhan’, ‘Karakon Fil Share’a’, ‘Ya Azizy Kolna Losos’, ‘El-Sabr Fil Mallahat’, and ‘Hakamat El-Mahkama.’

Born in 1944, Yehia started his career early in his boyhood, appearing with legendary Abdel-Halim Hafez in films like ‘Hekayet Hob’ and ‘El-Banat we El-Seif.’ He then studied directing at the Higher Institute of Cinema, from which he graduated in 1968, assisting directors like Helmy Halim, Ashraf Fahmy, Hussein Kamal, and Mohamed Abdel-Aziz.

Yehia also presented many TV works such as ‘Ya’am Mazelt Anesa’, ‘El-Banat we El-Omda Hanem’, ‘Emra’a Men Shaq El-Te’ban’, and ‘Zai El-Qamar’.

He received many awards and prizes throughout his long career, the last one being in the 34th Alexandria Mediterranean Film Festival in 2018.
