Famous Egyptian actress Jala Fahmy dies at age of 59

Egyptian actress Jala Fahmy, who starred in many films and TV series in the 1990s, died on Saturday at the age of 59 due to a heart attack.

Fahmy’s funeral ceremony will be held after noon prayer on Sunday in Cairo, according to Actors’ Syndicate head Ashraf Zaki.

Many cultural bodies, filmmakers, artists and fans have mourned the departure of the actress including Egypt’s Culture Minister Ines Abdel-Dayem who stated that “the departed is a creative artist with a significant style and she succeeded in winning the public’s love with a unique artistic style.”

She was the daughter of renowned director Ashraf Fahmy.

Graduating with a degree in English literature, Jala Fahmy started her artistic career early at the age of twelve presenting radio shows Hekayat Rawya WFekry and Al-Hall Howa Al-Habl.

Then she moved into acting, appearing in several TV shows and films like Youm Helw and Youm Morr and Edam Qady.

Jala Fahmy’s fame peaked in the 1990s when she starred in many commercially successful films like Keid El-Awalem, Kabdat El-Helaly, El-Hob Fi Taba, El Jeans, TaaTa W-Rika W-Kazem Beh, Samaka w-Arba Orosh, Alaqat Mashboha and Kalam El-Liel, as well as starring in a number of hit TV series like Layalay El-Helmeya and El-Weseya.

Her latest cinematic works included was Jala Jala in 2001 and Awel Marra Teheb Ya Alby in 2003.
