Malek will present the 2022 Oscars alongside numerous other renowned actors, such as Uma Thurman, Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes, John Leguizamo, Regina Hall, among others.
The names were revealed in the last update provided by the academy on their website. Also on the list of presenters are Kevin Costner, Zoë Kravitz, Lady Gaga, Rosie Perez, Chris Rock, and Yuh-Jung Youn. The producers will continue to announce talents joining the show in the coming weeks.
The 94th Academy Awards ceremony will be held at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre on Sunday 27 March 2022.
The event comes after the ceremony’s format changed last year due to the restrictions set by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last year, the 93rd Academy Awards were held in an intimate, in-person setting that was limited to nominees and presenters, with those who could not make it due to quarantines and travel restrictions making participating over videoconference.
Malek was born in 1981 in Los Angeles to a Coptic Orthodox family that immigrated to the US in the late 1970s.
He is best known for his performance as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. The role earned him an Oscar for Best Actor, a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors Guild Award, a British BAFTA Award, among other prizes.
Prior to Bohemian Rhapsody, Malek caught the American film industry’s attention for his role as hacker Elliot Alderson in Mr. Robot, for which he won Primetime Emmy Awards and the Critics’ Choice Television Award in 2016.
In 2017, he was invited to become a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
