The National Egyptian Film Festival has extended the deadline for receiving films to participate in its 24th edition.

Film Festival

Feature films, documentaries, short films and animations are being accepted until 19 April 2022 via the Cultural Development Fund.

The festival’s supervisor and film critic Kamal Ramzy said that the extension is in response to the large number of filmmakers asking for additional time to submit their works.

The festival, which is scheduled to take place in May 2022, is among the oldest and most important national film events in the country.

The selected films will enter a variety of competitions. The winners will be awarded prizes for best film, director, editing, best first or second film by a director, scriptwriting, music, art direction, best actress, best actor, sound effects, costumes, and others.

Short films should not exceed 15 minutes, while feature films should be above 60 minutes. Animated films should not exceed 60 minutes.

The film should be produced during the year 2021 and submitted in DVD format to the Cultural Development Fund before the deadline.

For more information, the filmmakers are requested to check the Cultural Development Fund’s website or call 02 2735 4234 / 02 2735 7001.

The 23rd edition of the National Egyptian Film Festival was held in March 2021 following a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, screening films produced in 2018, 2019 and 2020, totaling 170 films.

The pandemic has also affected the festival's format, as films are not open for the public, with screenings being attended by jury members only.
