La Semaine de la Critique is the parallel selection of the Festival de Cannes dedicated to first and second films.
"I have the immense honour and the great pleasure to preside over the jury of the 61st Semaine de la Critique - Cannes following the exceptional filmmaker Cristian Mungiu," Kaouther Ben Hania stated on social media Monday.
Born in Sidi Bouzid, Kaouther Ben Hania has established a significant career gaining several awards for her four short films, a documentary and four feature films that include The Blade of Tunis, Beauty and the Dogs and The Man Who Sold His Skin, the first Tunisian film nominated for the Best International Feature Film Oscar.
Kaouther Ben Hania's jury will also combine French-Greek actress and director Ariane Labed, Icelandic director Benedikt Erlingsson, Belgian director of photography Benoît Debie, and South Korean journalist, film programmer and the director of the Busan International Film Festival, Huh Moon-young.
Taking place in Cannes between the 18 and 26 of May, the selection of the 61st Semaine de la Critique will be announced on Wednesday.
Last year, Egyptian director Omar El-Zohairy clinched the Nespresso Grand Prize at the Semaine de la Critique for his debut feature film Reesh (“Feathers”).
