Moscars: A film festival by medical students

Ahram Online, Monday 24 Jan 2011

A four-day film festival will screen short films by emerging filmmakers as well as films that have gained international recognition

A film festival titled Moscars, initiated by two medical students at Ain Shams University, will take place from 28 to 31 January.

The two students, Karim Ali, an aspiring filmmaker, and Mariam Selim, a visual artist, created a website titled 3738Life to promote art and cultural awareness in June 2010. It features music, pictures of art pieces and films to download and discuss.

“We had our own online ciné club,” says Selim “and wanted to expand it and created an actual festival.”

The festival includes a short film competition in which the audience can vote based on criteria such as the cinematography, acting and script. There will also be a selection of films from Egypt, Morroco, Palestine and Iraq that will be screened and discussed.

The festival will be held at Gameyet Shabab Masr El Gedida.

Address: 44 Salah El Din str., Heliopolis
