Ragaa Hussein’s funeral ceremony was held in the afternoon in 6th of October City led by her daughter and ex-husband and attended by a number of artists including the Actors Syndicate president Ashraf Zaki.
Many cultural entities and personas in Egypt and the Arab world have mourned the departure of the veteran artist.
“She was an inspiring example in Egyptian and Arab world’s creativity through what she presented in her career in cinema, theatre, and TV,” stated Egyptian culture minister Ines Abdel-Dayem.
Born in Qalyubia governorate in 1937, Hussein, who launched her career in the 50s with Naguib El-Rihani Theatrical Troupe, has participated in almost 200 works in cinema, theatre, and TV.
The multi-awarded actress’ latest honoring was in May as part of the 24th edition of the Egyptian National Film Festival.
Among Ragaa Hussein's most memorable appearances are Youssef Chahine’s films; Return of the Prodigal Son (1987), An Egyptian Story (1982), and Alexandria, Again and Forever (1989), as well as other important works like Orid Hallan (1975), Afwah wa-Araneb (1977), and Nawara (2015).
She is one of the most appealing faces of Egyptian classic TV drama with appearances in all-time hits like El-Shajd Wal-Domou’, Al-Ma’al Wal-Banoun, Ze’ab El-Gabal, as well as late hits like Wahat Al-Ghouroub and Ayza Atgawez.
