Egyptian actor Hesham Selim dies at 64

Renowned Egyptian actor Hesham Selim passed away on Thursday morning at the age of 64 after a long battle with cancer.

The funeral will be held following the afternoon prayers at the Police Mosque of Sheikh Zayed, Giza governorate, stated head of the Actors Syndicate Ashraf Zaki.

Many Egyptian and Arab artists and cultural entities mourned the departure of the actor who starred in dozens of films, TV series, and theatre shows since his boyhood debut in Faten Hamama’s 'Embratoreyet Meem' (1972).

The son of Ahly club icon Saleh Selim collaborated with some of the best casts and crews in Egypt throughout his five-decade career.

Among his most significant films are ‘Awdat El-Ibn El-Daal’ (1978), ‘The Puppeteer’ (1989), ‘Ya Mehalabeya Ya’ (1991), ‘Crystal’ (1993), ‘Mit Foll’ (1996), Ya Donia Ya Gharami' (1996), ‘The Storm’ (2000), and ‘El-Nazer’ (2000).

His roles in TV classics ‘Layaly El-Helmeya’ and ‘Arabisque’ are among his unforgettable works, so is his theatre musical hit ‘Sharea Mohamed Ali’.

In recent years, Selim appeared in a number of successful TV series, such as ‘Hagma Mortadda’ (2021), ‘Kalabsh 3’ (2013), and Ekhtefaa (2018).
