Egyptian director Abdel-Latif Zaki dies at the age of 76

Well-known Egyptian director Abdel-Latif Zaki has passed away on Friday at the age of 76, his family announced.

Zaki is most known for commercial hit films including Naglaa Fathi’s El-Mar’a El-Hadidiya (Iron Woman, 1987), Nour El-Sherif’s Sera’ El-Ahfad (Grandsons Conflict, 1989) and Farouk El-Fishawy’s Ya Teheb Ya Te’eb (Get Rich or Get Enamored, 1994). 

Born in 1946, Zaki started his career as an assistant for well-known directors Kamal El-Sheikh, Mahmoud Zulfikar and Ali Abdel-Khalek, before directing dozens of films and TV shows.

Zaki’s filmography includes films such as Karawana (1993), Taamiya Bel-Shatta (1993), Donia Abdel-Gabbar (1992), El-Wohoush El-Sagheera (1989), El-Kammasha (1987), Khoyout El-Ankaboot (1985).

Many cultural entities and figures have mourned Zaki, including renowned critics Tarek El-Shennawy and Magda Khairallah who wrote her first film script for his Two Women and a Man in 1987.
