Egypt Premiere of Al Harra (The Alleys, 2021)

The film is set in an East Amman neighborhood ruled by gossip and violence. A young man does the impossible to be with his girlfriend, but her mother stands in their way. When an unexpected thing takes place, it sets a chain of events in motion. The film stars Manzer Rayahneh, Maisa Abd Elhadi, and Nadira Emran.

Trio Teryola
Wednesday 9 November, 8pm
Tahrir Cultural Centre, AUC, Downtown Cairo

Teryola, whose name comes from the Egyptian take on the French word “Triolet” (a three-note pattern in music notation), features Hany El-Badry on nay, Mohamed Esam on piano and Mohamed Araf on percussion. The concert will also feature guest singer Bothaina Khairy.

Antigone Theatre Play
Thursday 10 November, 8pm
Malak Gabr Arts Theatre, American University in Cairo, New Cairo campus

Prepared by AUC students, the play premiered on 8 November. The play will also be shown at Tahrir Cultural Centre from 15 to 19 November.

Egypt premiere of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)

The nation of Wakanda is pitted against intervening world powers as they mourn the loss of their King T'Challa. The film stars Martin Freeman, Letitia Wright, and Angela Bassett.

CairoComix - 7th edition
10, 11, 12 November
Mahmoud Mokhtar Cultural Center

CairoComix was launched in 2015 as the first and only comic festival in the country. It is a three-day immersion into the world of comics, and is the largest platform supporting the genre in Egypt. Check out the programme at the CairoComix Facebook page.

Exhibition: The Path of Czech Egyptology
Saturday 12 November, 2pm
Embassy of the Czech Republic in Cairo, 4 Dokki Street.

The exhibition presents the history of Czech Egyptology, from archeology and research on the Egyptian language and climate change, the development of religious ideas, flora and fauna, to the use of cybernetic models in the study of ancient Egyptian society. A special guided tour of the exhibition will begin at 2pm in English and Czech.

 

44th Cairo International Film Festival 
Sunday 13 November

The 44th edition of the Cairo International Film Festival begins on 13 November and continues until 22 November. The films are screened across numerous venues in Egypt. They are complimented by workshops, seminars and industry-related events. The festival will also hold the 5th edition of the Cairo Industry Days (17-22 November).
