James Cameron's iconic film Titanic is getting a theatrical re-release in 3D 4K HDR and high-frame-rate technology on 9 February across the Middle East, celebrating the film's 25th anniversary.

The release follows its previous remastered 3D version released in 2012, followed by a 2017 release marking the film's 20th anniversary.

Originally released in 1997, Titanic was an instant success among critics and audiences alike.

The film was nominated for 14 Academy Awards, winning 11 including Best Picture. It was also the first film to reach the billion-dollar mark at the box office in its first few days, and it grossed $2.2 billion in the following months. It remained the highest-grossing film of all time until Avatar, yet another film by Cameron, took over in 2009.

The 9 February release will be paralleled by releases across different countries until 14 February, marking Valentine’s Day.

An epic, action-packed romance set against the ill-fated maiden voyage of the R.M.S. Titanic, the film is filled with special effects that were considered extremely novel for the time, opening a new chapter in film production.

Starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio as Rose and Jack, the film played an important role in boosting the careers of both actors.

The film also features the Oscar-winning song My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion, which has become iconic over the past decades.

Although the huge success of Titanic has prompted scrutinising eyes to point to a number of mistakes in its plot, which has also been accused of being cliche, it remains one of the most watched and analysed films of all time.
