Running from 16 February, the Alexandria Short Film Festival revealed the awardees on its final day, 21 February.

The winners are:

Hypatia Golden Award for Best Film: Sharaa (Morocco), directed by Alhussein Hanin

Hypatia Silver Award: The Whistle (Iraq), directed by Adel Abdel Majeed

Special mention to the film Boumla (Algeria), directed by Yazid Yato

With the theme Linking Past and Present, this year's festival poster was designed by Kirolos Maximus and featured a girl in a wrap sheet, a costume that Bahari girls were famous for in the past.

The Alexandria Short Film Festival is a grassroots youth initiative founded in 2015 by Mohamed Mahmoud with Mohamed Saadoun and Mony Mahmoud as president, director, and artistic director, respectively. The annual event is organised through the Arts’ Circle (Dayret Al-Fann) Association.

The main awards of the festival are the Golden and Silver Hypatia, named for the Greek philosopher, astronomer, and mathematician who lived in Alexandria.

It is supported by the Ministry of Culture and the Tourism Development Authority.
