The festival’s upcoming edition will run between 15 and 24 November 2023.
The festival will also hold the sixth round of the Cairo Industry Days. The dates of this event are yet to be revealed. The Cairo Industry Days will feature the Cairo Film Connection (CFC) which will be running for the 10th year. The CFC focuses on supporting film projects in their many production phases.
The 44th edition that took place between 13 and 22 November 2022 was headed by renowned actor Hussein Fahmy with Amir Ramses as its director.
The festival saw the participation of 108 films from 53 countries. Thirty films had their international premieres while 57 had their Middle East and/or North Africa premieres.
The last edition witnessed a large public turnout, and the number of guests participating in the festival reached 480.
The festival offered its highest recognition, the Golden Pyramid Award for lifetime achievement, to Lebleba, an award-winning film actress, singer and entertainer.
The second Lifetime Achievement Award was given to the Hungarian filmmaker Béla Tarr, who also held a masterclass that spanned throughout the whole festival.
The Faten Hamama Excellence Award was awarded to Kamla Abu Zekri, an Egyptian film director whose extensive oeuvre encompasses several masterpiece films.
Cairo International Film Festival is one of the oldest and most prestigious festivals in the Arab world and Africa and is the only festival in the Arab and African region registered as ‘category A’ by the International Federation of Producers in Paris.The festival’s upcoming edition will run between 15 and 24 November 2023.
