Bassem Fayad's 'Road Beyond the Sunset,' which chronicles the pain of the so-called 'new Iraq,' will be screened at Cairo's Cimatheque on Saturday, 4 August

The Road Beyond the Sunset

Documentary film 'The Road beyond the Sunset' follows the personal journey of an Arab filmmaker who travels with his film crew across violence-wracked Iraq.

As the protagonists make their way through the 'new Iraq,' they meet local residents and get to know their pains and grievances.

They visit the country's Kurdish region and see how it was affected by the reign of overthrown Iraqi president Saddam Hussein. They then move on to the capital, Baghdad, once a city of wonders, to find much of it in ruins, thanks to the destructive US-led 2003 invasion and subsequent occupation of the country.

Directed by Bassem Fayad, the 60-minute documentary film was produced by Ron Alexander for TeleProductions International in 2004.
