Social media users shared the video widely.
Director of the National Cinema Center Karim Abdel-Aziz said in a statement that "the purpose of Hanks' visit was to help boost tourism in Egypt," but did not provide details.
This is not the first time for Hanks, 66, to visit Egypt.
In a highly publicised visit in 2014, Hanks, who is very popular among Egyptians, shot scenes in Hurghada on the Red Sea for his comedy-drama A Hologram for the King, which was directed and co-scored by Tom Tykwer.
His latest work A Man Called Otto (2023) is screening in theatres around the world.
