Austrian-Egyptian actress Amira El-Sayed appears in HBO's Spy/Master

Austrian-Egyptian actress Amira El-Sayed will appear in five of first six episodes of the new Cold War era HBO series Spy/Master.

The series will have its international debut on HBO Max - the American subscription video on-demand streaming platform - with six episodes to be released on 19 May. 

El-Sayed grew up as a child in Alexandria before moving to Vienna.

She was previously casted in a number of international productions, including A Hologram for the King which starred Tom Hanks and directed by Tom Tykwer.

El-Sayed appears in episodes 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 in Spy/Master.

Created by Adina Sădeanu and Kirsten Peter, Spy/Master was produced by HBO Romania and directed by Christopher Smith.

The series is loosely based on a true story which took place in the 1970s during the Cold War era in Romania and West Germany.

According to the Spy/Master brief, the series follows “Victor Godeanu, Ceausescu's right-hand man, who has a secret. He is also a KGB agent and must escape before he is discovered, so he will seize a valuable diplomatic opportunity.”

The first two episodes of the series premiered in and received a nomination for the Berlinale Series Award (2023).
