Directed by Amjad Al-Rasheed, Inshallah Walad is Jordan's first-ever film to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, receiving quite applause during last week's screening and Q&A.

The Gan Foundation for Cinema is a €20,000 grant award designed to help new French distributors promote new filmmakers. The award went to French distributor Pyramide Films.

The cast and crew attended the premiere. They included actors Islam Al-Awadi and Mohammad Jizawi, and producers Aseel Abu Ayyash and Youssef Abdel-nabi, among others.

The 90-minute drama tells the story of Nawal, who, after the death of her husband, has to save her daughter and home in a society where having a son is the difference between privilege and discrimination.

Inshallah Walad was backed by different entities, including the 79th Venice International Film Festival, Jordan's Royal Film Commission and Doha Film Institute.

Co-written by Al-Rasheed alongside Delphine Augte and Rula Nasser, the film stars Hawa, Haitham Omari, Salwa Nakkara, Yumna Marwan, Al-Jizawi, Al-Awadi, and Celina Rababa.

The film is edited by the prolific Ahmed Hafez, and the sound is mixed by Nour Halawani. Jerry Lane wrote the score for the film.

Born in 1985, Al-Rasheed holds an MFA in cinematic arts with a focus on directing and editing. His filmography includes Bitter Days (2010) and Hit The Road (2011).
