Nevertheless, the movie's release in Egypt came as a surprise to many amidst speculations that the movie could have been banned similar to its fate in other Arab countries.
After sparking a wave of controversy in recent weeks across the Arab World, the screening of the $1 billion blockbuster was officially banned by the authorities in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Lebanon over concerns that the film contravenes local societal values.
Anyways, the movie's release in Egypt set off a positive mood among the iconic doll's fans and lovers.
Many fans have been prepping for weeks to attend the flick, buying all kinds of Barbie attire and paraphernalia in pink.
Cinemas in Egypt screening the movie set different ratings for the film, raising some confusion among the public.
Renaissance, Golden Stars and Point 90, rated the film 12+.
Others like VOX Cinemas Egypt rated Barbie 18 TC.
However, a source at the Censorship on Artistic Works, the official body which assigns ratings to artworks and monitors adherence to societal morals and values, told Ahram Online that Barbie is officially rated 12+ in Egypt.
Worldwide, the film is rated at PG 13 (Parental Guidance if under 13).
