The 45th Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF), slated from 15 to 24 November, will celebrate short films.

During the competition's opening ceremony, a selection of short films from the festival's official competition will be screened, with the participating filmmakers, jury members, and audiences in attendance.

In parallel, a non-competitive section will be dedicated to showcasing the latest works of promising Egyptian filmmakers.

The winning short film will qualify for the Academy Award lists, a recognition that has been introduced to the CIFF by its former president Mohamed Hefzy.

"The CIFF remains committed to empowering the short film industry with several new additions to the short film programme," the festival's press release reported.

New partnership between the CIFF and Drosos Foundation in Egypt introduces a $5,000 cash prize for the best Arab short film. The recipient of this award will be selected by the short film jury from among the Arab participants in the official short film competition.

Following its annual practice, the festival’s upcoming edition will hold the sixth round of the Cairo Industry Days featuring the Cairo Film Connection (CFC), which will be running for the 10th year. The CFC focuses on supporting film projects in their many production phases.

The CIFF is one of the oldest and most prestigious festivals in the Arab world and Africa. It is the only festival in the Arab and African regions registered as Category A by the International Federation of Producers in Paris.
