The Minister of Culture Nevine El-Kilany decided to postpone the festival and said that new dates will be determined later, according to the CIFF's announcement.
While the official announcement used the term “postponed,” a CIFF representative stated that this effectively amounts to a cancellation due to the lack of available dates at the Opera House complex, where the festival is traditionally held, Screen Daily reported.
This decision comes amid escalating tensions in the region as a result of the ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip that began on 7 October.
The postponement followed the recent rescheduling of Egypt's El Gouna Film Festival (GFF), which has been moved from 27 October to 2 November.
