Shawki was born on 25 December 1950 to the great comedian Farid Shawki and the 1960s star Hoda Sultan. Her half-sister Rania Farid Shawki is a known actress.
The artistic lineage continued with her son Farid El-Morshedy, from her first husband Medhat El-Sebaei who later married the renowned actress Sawsan Badr and then remarried artist Dalia El-Behairy. Shawki's daughter Nahed El-Sebaei is also a well-established actress.
Shawki had a production company, which helped several important films see light.
These known films include Al-Bo'asaa (the Egyptian adaptation of Les Misérables, 1978), Hysteria (1998) starring Ahmed Zaki and Abla Kamel, and Men Nazret Ein (From a Glimpse of an Eye, 2003) which starred Amr Waked and Mona Zaki.
Shawki also worked as an executive producer in several television series.
