Ahram Online , Tuesday 26 Mar 2024

El-Gouna Film Festival (GFF) announced that its seventh edition is set to take place in the coastal town of Gouna from 24 October to 1 November 2024.

The festival's artistic director Marianne Khoury, shared her vision for the seventh edition in a press release saying: "Navigating through the ever-evolving landscape of cinema, El-Gouna Film Festival has continually pushed boundaries, spotlighting diverse voices and narratives. As we prepare for the seventh edition, we remain committed to offering an inclusive space for encouraging dialogue, creativity, and collaboration. Besides, we will expand the experience of the CineGouna Emerge, which we launched last year."

The festival also announced that it will transition Intishal Al-Timimi to the role of a member of the International Advisory Board.

Al-Tamimi is one of the fundamental figures in the festival and served as its director throughout the first six editions.

Amr Mansi will continue to lead the GFF team as executive director.

Meanwhile, film critic Andrew Mohsen was announced as head of programming.

The festival's sixth edition took place between 14 and 21 December 2023, following two postponements in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

The event kicked off without a flashy opening or red carpet event. The majority of guests arrived dressed in black, in stark contrast to earlier iterations of the GFF.

The 2023 programming consisted of 80 films, including 12 feature-length fiction films, 12 feature-length documentaries, and 21 short films in official competition.

The festival continues to be held under the patronage of Gouna founder, Samih Sawiris and will be presented by Orascom Development, a leading developer of fully integrated destinations in Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa, with the support of festival founder, Naguib Sawiris.
