Egyptian actor Ahmed Helmy to give masterclass at Rotterdam Arab Film Festival

Celebrated Egyptian actor Ahmed Helmy will give a special masterclass during the Rotterdam Arab Film Festival (RAFF), scheduled to take place between 30 May and 2 June.

According to the festival's organizers, the actor will "delve deeper into the techniques that have helped him become one of the most beloved actors in Egypt."

Helmy will also talk about his approach to character development, his experience as a judge on Arabs Got Talent, and his passion projects such as writing the book 28 Letters.

The masterclass targetting aspiring actors and seasoned professionals will take place on the second day of the festival, Saturday 1 June.

Helmy, 54, is one of the region's most popular artists, starring in over 25 successful feature films.

He worked also as a writer, artwork creator, and judge on a talent show. 

Additionally, Helmy served Frequently as a producer and director and has over 40 million followers on different social media platforms.

He started his career on television with the programme Laab Eyal (Kids’ Games).

Helmy is a 1993 art graduate from the High Institute for Theatre. His debut role in cinema came after director Sherif Arafa chose him to star in Aboud Ala Al-Hedoud in 1999.

He focuses on promoting child rights and raising awareness of early childhood development issues in the region.

The RAFF, one of Europe's oldest and fastest-growing festivals, is dedicated to showcasing films from the MENA region and presents many award-winning titles.

So far, the 2024 edition of the RAFF will feature 14 feature-length films, representing Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Algeria, Jordan, Palestine, Qatar, Egypt, and Tunisia.
