Egyptian actor Mostafa Fahmy dies at age 82

Egyptian actor Mostafa Fahmy died in the early hours of Wednesday after a long fight with cancer.

Born on 7 August 1942, the Egyptian actor graduated from the Higher Institute of Cinema and dedicated his life to acting. 

In his four-decade-long career, Fahmy appeared in over 45 films and almost 100 TV series. 

He began as an assistant photographer in Amira Hobi Ana (1974) and launched his acting career in the same year, appearing in Atef Salem's Where Is My Mind? starring Soad Hosni, Roshdi Abaza, and Mahmoud Yassin

Fahmy began working with multiple Egyptian directors, appearing in films, including, among others, Hassan El-Emam's Qamar Al-Zaman (1976) and The Girl Who Said No (1978). He also starred in Ashraf Fahmy's
 Five-Star Thieves (1994), alongside Salah Zoulfakar, and Inas El-Degheidy's The Red Rose (2000) with Youssra and Ahmed Ramzy.

In addition, Fahmy starred in Naguib Mahfouz's adaptation of Ayoub (1983), directed by Hany Lasheen, and ّIhsan Abdel-Quddous's adaptation of Days in Halal (1985) by Hussein Kamal.

He took on leading roles in TV series such as The Hotel (1980), A Place in the Heart (1988), Private Secrets (1997), Wandering Hearts (2006), and Yesterday's Story (2008).

Fahmy starred alongside renowned actresses, including Shweikar, Naglaa Fathy, Madiha Kamel, and Elham Shahin.

In 2024, he played his final cinematic roles in the movies Ahl El Kahf (The Cave People) and Aserb (The Squadron). 

He is the younger brother of actor Hussein Fahmy.
