Born on 22 April 1947, the Egyptian actor graduated from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in 1982 and dedicated his life to acting.
His career began in the 1980s with films and TV series, including Behind The Truth (1980), The Trial (1982), The Price of Exile (1987), with director Nader Galal, The Despicable (1986), starring Mervat Amin and Yehia El-Fakharany, Assassination of a Teacher (1988), starring Nabila Ebeid, and Agent number 13 (1989), starring Mohamed Sobhy.
In the 1990s, he starred in several works, including the film The Road to Eilat (1993) alongside Salah Zulfakar and Ezzat El-Alaily and the TV series Tale of a City (1995) with Soheir El-Morshedi.
He also appeared in other films and TV series, including Nights of Eugenie (2018), Raafat Al-Haggan (1990-1991), starring Mahmoud Abdel-Aziz, The Antarah of His Time (1995), starring Adel Adham and Farouk El-Fishawy, and Al-Zaini Barakat (1995), based on a novel by Gamal Al-Ghitani. In 1997, he starred in a film adaptation of Ihsan Abdel Qodous's novel My Blood, Tears, and Smiles.
In theatre, Elhalfawy starred alongside Abla Kamel in An Imp for Every Citizen (1988), A House in the Air (1988) with Hamdy Ghaith and Amina Rezk, alongside Sawsan Badr in Rituals of Signs and Transformations (1996), and Mahmoud El-Gendy in Smile When You Die (2018).
In 2000, he starred in The House of Zaafarani alongside Riyad El-Khouly and the following year, he starred in Alleys and Palaces alongside Fardous Abdelhamid.
Elhalfawy participated in the works of renowned screenwriter Osama Anwar Okasha, including the TV series Zizinya (1997-2000), Canaria and Company (2003), and The People of Egypt (2007-2009).
He was also featured in King Farouk (2007), starring Syrian actor Taim Hassan and Abdelrahman El-Abnoudy's story The Valley of Kings (2011).
He appeared in Dahsha (2014), the Egyptian adaptation of Shakespeare's play King Lear, and Wannous (2016), starring opposite Yehia El-Fakharany in both series.
Throughout his four-decade-long career, Elhalfawy acted in over 80 films and TV series.
He most recently starred in Cairo: Kabul (2021) alongside Tarek Lotfy, Fathy Abdelwahab, and Khaled El-Sawy. In 2022, he starred in the movie Citizens' Arrest, directed by his son Khaled.
