This limited lineup means cinemagoers will spend the Eid break with three major Egyptian releases already showing: Siko Siko, Project X, and Restart. Each delivers a distinct mix of action, comedy, and adventure.
Siko Siko, released on 30 March and in cinemas since Eid Al-Fitr, has become one of the highest-grossing films in Egyptian cinema history in the past weeks.
Directed by Omar El-Mohandes and starring Khaled El-Sawy, Bassem Samra, Tara Emad, Essam Omar, and Taha Desouky, this comedy follows two middle-class cousins whose lives take a dramatic turn when they finally reclaim their inheritance after their uncle's death.
Their excitement is short-lived, however, as they soon discover the fortune was built on illegal dealings. Determined to make the most of it, they set out to liquidate the assets, creating a game called Siko Siko to help sell the goods. This sets off an unexpected and chaotic new adventure.
Project X was released on 21 May.
Written and directed by Peter Mimi, the film stars Karim Abdel Aziz, Yasmine Sabri, Eyad Nassar, Ahmed Ghazy, and Maryam El-Gendy.
This action film focuses on a tormented archaeologist who stumbles upon ancient secrets with the potential to transform the world's energy future. He finds himself hunted by a secretive organisation intent on keeping the discovery hidden.
As danger closes in, he faces a harrowing choice: expose the truth to the world or protect his daughter from the lethal forces determined to silence them both.
The third title in cinemas is Restart, written by Ayman Bahgat Kamar and directed by Sara Wafik.
This comedy, starring Tamer Hosny, Mohammed Tharwat, Hana Al Zahed, and Bassem Samra, was released across cinemas on 28 May, shortly before Eid Al-Adha.
The plot follows Mohamed, a modest phone technician, who dreams of marrying Afaf, a rising social media influencer. Struggling to afford their future together, they join forces with their eccentric families to chase online fame.
With help from a notorious digital agent known as The Joker, they quickly rise to stardom. But as wealth and popularity take over, they lose touch with what matters.
Only these Egyptian movies -- Siko Siko, Project X, and Restart -- are screened across cinemas.
Meanwhile, American movies are being screened across movie theatres.
Lilo and Stitch, Karate Kid: Legends, Final Destinations: Bloodlines, and Until Dawn were released in the days and weeks leading up to the Eid.
Most recently, on 4 June, Ballerina, an action film starring Ian McShane, Ana de Armas, and Keanu Reeves, was added to that selection.
How to Train Your Dragon hits cinemas on 7 June. The film stars Gerard Butler, Nico Parker, Nick Frost, and Mason Thames.
