Ahram Online , Sunday 23 Nov 2025

During the upcoming 18th edition of the Panorama of the European Film, two Spanish films will be screened: Sirat (Cannes 2025 Jury Prize) by Oliver Laxe, and Ciudad sin sueño (Sleepless City) by Guillermo Galoe.

Panorama

Sirat will screen on 29 November at Zawya Cinema and on 6 December at Zamalek Cinema, while Sleepless City will be screened on 27 November and 3 December at 7pm at Zawya.

Sirat tells the story of a man and his son who arrive at a remote rave in Morocco. They are looking for Mar—their daughter and sister—who disappeared months earlier at one of these all-night parties. Surrounded by electronic music and a kind of freedom they have never known, they distribute her photo again and again. They fall in with a group of ravers and decide to follow them to one last party in the desert, where they hope to find the missing girl.

Sleepless City follows Toni, a 15-year-old gypsy boy who lives in Europe’s largest informal settlement on the outskirts of Madrid. Proud to belong to a family of scrap-metal dealers, he follows his grandfather everywhere. But demolition is approaching their plot of land, and his grandfather refuses to leave, whatever the cost. On dark nights without electricity—when the legends of his childhood seem to come alive—Toni must choose between facing an uncertain future or clinging to a world that is fading away.

The 18th Panorama will take place between 26 November and 7 December.

The festival promotes cultural exchange between Egypt and Europe, offering Egyptian audiences the opportunity to discover the rich diversity of European viewpoints and perspectives that enrich the global cultural landscape. It opens doors to new worlds and realities through the cinematic styles of the European continent.
