Produced by Film Clinic / Mohamed Hefzy, written and directed by Maggie Morgan, an independent low-budget film titled Asham will be screened on Wednesday 25 September at Cinema El-Fourn at Darb 1718.

The movie looks into a multitude of 'invisible walls' which segregate Egyptians according to social class, religion, gender, line of work etc and investigates their hopes, aspirations and disapointments. Morgan aimed to bring to light those divisions against the backdrop of Cairo, a large city where the lives of millions of people intersect.

The idea of the movie reaches to year 2010 and it was eventually shot in Cairo and Alexandria in the wake of the January 25 Revolution, an additional aspect that, according to Morgan, affected the whole production."Everyone was on a high and energised by the experience. This charge certainly went into the film," we read in Asham's press release.

The cast of the film includes: Aly Kassem, Amina khalil, Hani Seif, Hani Eskander, Mahmoud Al-Lozy, Marwa Tharwat, Mohamed Khan, Mona Al-Shimi, Mina El-Naggar, Naglaa Younis, Noha Al-Kholy, Salma Salem, Seif El-Aswany, Shady Habashy.

"Most of the actors in the film are new actors. Some have never even acted before. They bring a freshness to the film," states the press release.

Asham won an award for the Best Director and Best Editing Awards at the 3rd Malmo Arab Film Festival in early September.

Prior to Malmo, the movie received a Special Mention at the International Oriental Film Festival in Geneva (April 2013).

Music for Asham was written by Hany Adel, costumes and Art Direction by Wafaa Wali, editing by Ahmed Abdalla El-Sayed and Hisham Saqr, Director of Photography: Raouf Abdelaziz.
