After strong protests by cinema makers about the appointment of Ashraf Zaky as head of the Egyptian Cinema Association, Zaky resigned yesterday.
Helmy El Sayed, the head of Egyptian Media Production City (EMPC), temporarily appointed the film critic and head of international cooperation sector at EMPC, Youssef Sherif Rizkallah, as the association’s new head.
Ashraf Zaky was also the head of the Egyptian actor’s syndicate and was also removed by its members shortly after the ousting of Mubarak.
One of the repeated complaints from union members was based on the fact that the rules of the syndicate were being bent, depending on the personal benefits to its head and a few persons on the board, and these preferential standpoints were very obvious
