With its second edition set for May 2014 in Egypt, the Qabila Short Film Festival calls for submissions from young directors around the world

Now calling for short films, Egypt's Qabila Short Film Festival – an annual event where filmmakers from around the globe showcase their work and share learning experiences – is scheduled to run its second edition in May.

Eligible films must have been produced after January 1, 2012, and must be created by directors aged between 16 and 36 years old at the time of submission. Films should be between one and 30 minutes in length, and can be fiction, animation or documentary.

The films selected to participate in the international competition will be contenders for three prizes: Best Short Fiction, Best Short Documentary and Best Short Animation. Egyptian filmmakers will also compete for two more awards: Best Director and Best First Film.

Qabila received 260 submissions from 20 different countries for the festival's first round.
